Smaller Provoke Model Headlines CRKT’s 2022 Product Preview

Knife Global.Jun 13, 2021
CRKT has just uploaded its 2022 Product Preview. Billed as an indication of concepts that CRKT will expand upon next year, the 20220 Product Preview includes new models and unusual variations of existing ones.Provoke CompactThe original Provoke was the long-awaited production version of Joe Caswell‘s morphing Karambit design; now, it’s getting a little brother. The standard Provoke wasn’t a huge knife, but the Compact brings the blade length down to 2.26 inches. The weight is the standout difference, reduced to 4.4 oz. from the original’s 6.1 oz.KithThe Kith is a Ken Steigerwalt design that delivers a no-nonsense EDC-style knife. Its 2.95-inch drop point blade is an all-purpose cutter made from 8Cr13MoV, opened with a thumb stud. If there is an unusual aspect to the Kith, it’s in the lock – this is Steigerwalt’s Front Lock, which functions just like a back lock but moved forward on the knife handle so that the knife can be disengaged with one hand.KovaAnother Steigerwalt design, the Kova is also equipped with the Front Lock mechanism. However, it has a bigger 8Cr13 blade than the Kith, measuring 3.5 inches long. It should be able to accomplish lots of EDC chores and flex into some harder cutting jobs as well.Minimalist PersianThe Alan Folts-designed Minimalist line of fixed blades is already a large family – and it’s getting another new member this year. Modeled after a Folts custom, the Minimalist Persian has a trailing point-style blade that measures 2.76 inches long. The blade steel is the line standard 8Cr13MoV.Pry CutterCRKT’s latest keychain multitool comes to us from Joe Wu, who has designed other compact tools for the company. The Pry Cutter has a pry bar, bit driver, bottle opener, hex wrenches, and, most unusually, a replaceable cable cutter wheel. Buck Releases S45VN Frame Lock Flipper

Knife Global.Jun 13, 2021
Today Buck unveiled the 040 Onset, a new frame lock flipper. The Onset sees Buck targeting some big knife market trends with its frame lock construction and current gen super steel blade. The Onset is a mid-sized EDC knife, as simple as that. With a blade length of 3.38 inches, it should fall right in the sweet spot for most users. The blade shape is a sort of wide drop point blade that we don’t see much of in Buck’s catalog; and it’s also sporting a full flat grind to maximize its slicing capability. A skeletonized flipper tab provides the only opening method, powered by a ball bearing pivot.Probably the biggest selling point on the Outset is the blade steel. Buck doesn’t often turn toward the latest and greatest steels for its knives, but they’re going all out with the Onset, giving it a blade made from S45VN steel. S45VN is the latest in the S30V line of super steels, and is still something of a rare sight on standard production knives. The only other Buck product we’ve seen with S45VN is the 2021 Legacy Collection 110 Folding Hunter. Like the S45VN on that knife, the steel here also benefits from a heat treat by master metallurgist Paul Bos.The Onset from the lock sideThe Onset’s handle design falls in line with its overall utilitarian ethos. It’s a classic arching shape, with a squared off back end, flipper tab finger guard, and black G-10 show side scale. The stainless steel frame lock definitely adds some heft, but at 4.5 oz. the Onset is still reasonably light. A Hinderer-style overtravel stop is in place to prevent unintentional damage to the locking arm, and there’s a non-reversible pocket clip, also made from stainless steel. This actually isn’t the first time that Buck has rolled out the Onset. It first came to us in a very limited edition model several years ago, with a Damasteel balde and other ritzy touches. making it a pretty affordable way to check out S45VN.   The article is shared from Internet...knifeglobal:https ://knifeglobal.com

Blade Show 2021 Condor Tool & Knife Showcase Latest Chopper

Knife Global.Jun 13, 2021
Condor Tool & Knife and designer Joe Flowers are bringing a new chopper knife to Blade Show, the Batonata. They modeled the Batonata after a Japanese woodcraft blade, but altered it in significant ways to create a different kind of tool. The “Baton” part of the name “Batonata” is self-explanatory; the “nata” part nods towards the main inspiration for this fixed blade. The Batonata is Condor and Flowers’s take on the nata, a Japanese bushcraft and forestry knife. Traditional nata designs vary in size and shape; the Batonata takes after those with a square, chisel-shaped blade. With its blade length of 10 inches, it is well spec’d for the kinds of work its name evokes: chopping, batoning, path clearing. Japanese natas come in both chisel and v grinds; Condor gave their take on the form a standard V-grind.We’ve seen Condor quietly expand its steel repertoire in recent years, with more implementation of stainless steel than ever before. But given the Batonata’s intended, demanding role, it made sense for them to default to their line standard 1075. While susceptible to corrosion, 1075 is quite tough and easy to maintain; sharpening or edge repair should be relatively painless with this steel.Hickory wood scales cover the Batonata’s full tang handle, which is devoid of finger grooves or traction patterns. the handle arcs from front to back, and ends in a large butt end; a cord wrapping below the edge provides additional security during use. A leather sheath is included, and the hefty Batonata weights 31.75 oz. total. The Batonata in its leather sheath The article is shared from Internet...knifeglobal:https ://knifeglobal.com

CKF/Rotten.Design Evo 3.0 Gets Slated for 2022 Release

Knife Global.Jun 13, 2021
Today marks the return (in preorder form at least) of the Custom Knife Factory Evo, a collaboration with Jon Sorensen of Rotten.Design. This is the Evo 3.0, and it takes elements of both previous CKF Evo models and unites them in a new package. The first CKF Evo came out in the fall of 2019, and, like many CKF products, it was a faithful adaptation of a custom knife of the same name. It marked the first time that Sorensen’s work made the transition from sought-after customer to, well, sought-after production knife: the knife sold out quickly and a second version, the Evo 2.0, released at the beginning of this year to a similarly ravenous audience. Both previous Evo models were plus-size folders with the usual CKF trimmings: titanium, zirconium, M390, etc.; but the first Evo model was larger than its follow-up. The Evo 3.0 returns to the dimensions of the 1.0, with a 3.74-inch blade and an overall length of 8.5 inches. That’s a bit larger than the 2.0, which had a 3.6 inch blade and overall length of 7.95 inches, but the 3.0 is lighter than the 1.0. Its blade shape matches the 2.0, too, with its more pronounced tip; opening methods are a thumb stud (which doubles as a blade stop) and an oval cutout on the blade, and the blade steel is M390 once again. The Evo 3.0’s handle design falls very much in line with the 2.0’s more streamlined design, which did away with most of the finger grooves on the original 1.0. However, there are some changeups here, including a more pronounced cutout on the show side scale to make disengaging the frame lock easier. The Evo 3.0 is not expected to start shipping until August of 2022, but CKF is open for preorders. The preorder window will end on Monday, and there are no piece count restrictions; that is, CKF will make as many Evo 3.0 knives as are ordered. The knife is coming out in five different configurations, including a plain titanium model, one that is completely blacked out, and an extra premium damasteel model.
